Importance of
transdisciplinary
scientific research
to understand,
validate and
integrate unexplored
traditional
systems has
been globally
recognized.
Many reputed
international
bodies like
the World Health
Organization
(WHO) and National
Institute of
Health (NIH),
USA have declared
strategies to
integrate traditional
medicine. India
has rich heritage
of traditional
holistic health
systems like
Ayurveda, Yoga,
Siddha, Unani,
Naturopathy
and Sowa Rigpa.
The National
Health Policy
2017 formulated
by Ministry
of Health and
Family Welfare,
Government of
India has strongly
advocated mainstreaming
of AYUSH and
its three dimensional
integration
into current
medical system.
Leading the
initiative,
the Center for
Complementary
and Integrative
Health (CCIH),
an autonomous
academic center
was established
at Interdisciplinary
School of Health
Sciences (ISHS),
Savitribai Phule
Pune University.
ISHS has been
undertaking
research in
the area of
Ayurveda and
Integrative
Medicine since
20 years under
the guidance
of Prof. Bhushan
Patwardhan.
The establishment
of CCIH was
the outcome
of enormous
efforts undertaken
for various
milestone projects
by Prof. Patwardhan
and team over
the years. The
objectives of
CCIH are to
promote evidence
based integrative
health approaches
so as to strengthen
medical and
public health
systems.
