Established in 1987, the Bioinformatics Centre, SPPU, is one of the pioneering institutions in India dedicated to education, research, and training in the field of bioinformatics. Over the past four decades, it has evolved into a nationally recognized hub for interdisciplinary training, research, and capacity building in computational biology. Our faculty are actively engaged in cutting-edge areas such as genomics, transcriptomics, structural bioinformatics, immunoinformatics, phylogeny, and virus bioinformatics, fostering a strong research-driven academic environment.
The M.Sc. programme is designed to provide a robust conceptual foundation along with rigorous analytical and practical training. The curriculum is regularly updated to align with emerging scientific and industry trends, covering key domains including biological databases, sequence and structural analysis, omics technologies, systems biology and applications of artificial intelligence in life sciences.
A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on learning and skill development. Students are trained in Python, R, Linux, data analysis and computational methods through practicals, projects and dissertation work, many of which have led to publications in peer-reviewed journals. Exposure to real-world datasets, internships, and industry interactions ensures that our graduates are well-prepared for both research and professional careers. Our alumni are successfully placed in leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, data analytics firms, healthcare start-ups, research organizations and academic institutions worldwide. Many of our alumni have pursued doctoral and postdoctoral research at prestigious national and international institutions, while some have also ventured into entrepreneurship by establishing their own start-ups. We value our collaborations with industry and research partners and invite recruiters to engage with our talented students. Together, we can contribute to advancing data-driven biology and addressing global challenges in health and life sciences.
