Dr. Marion
Deshmukh’s Visit to IDS (5.1.2009) :
Dr. Marion Deshmukh (Professor, Department of History and Art History,
George Mason University, U.S.A.) visited the I.D.S. on 5th January 2009.
First she had an informal discussion with the faculty about many issues
pertaining to History, literature, art and education. Dr. Raja Dixit (H.O.D.,
I.D.S.), Prof. C.R.Das (Competitive Examinations Centre), Prof. Shrikant
Botre, Prof. Dr. Anil Latey participated in the discussion. This was
followed by her lecture on ‘What is History?’. About 35 scholars attended
the lecture and had a lively interaction with Dr. Deshmukh.
Shri. Mukundrao Patil’s Visit to I.D.S. (10.1.2009) :
Shri. Uttamrao (alias Nana) Patil (Secretary, Deenamitrakar Mukundrao Patil
Archives and Research Centre, Tarawadi, Dist. Ahmednagar) visited I.D.S. on
10th January 2009 in connection of the collaboration between I.D.S. and
Tarawadi Archives for documentation and digitization. He had an informal
discussion about Satyashodhak Movement, archival sources of social movements
in Maharashtra, his personal experiences etc. Dr. Raja Dixit (H.O.D.,
I.D.S.), Prof. Shrikant Botre, Dr. Narayan Bhosale and Prof. Dinkar Murkute
(Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Aundh, Pune) participated in the
discussion.
Proposed workshop (March 2009) :
We propose to conduct some activities in collaboration with other
Departments on the University Campus and also with some outside
institutions. As a first step, we shall organize a workshop jointly with the
Department of Sociology in the first week of March. It will be a Workshop on
‘Research Methodology’ for the research students of Social Sciences. Dr.
Shruti Tambe (Reader, Department of Sociology) has agreed to work as the Co-ordinator
of the Workshop.
Lecture Series for Research Students of Humanities and Social
Sciences (March 2009 onwards) :
We propose to launce a lecture series for the research students introducing
new trends, concepts and methods. The idea is to motivate the students for
good quality research. Many experienced teachers and eminent scholars will
interact with the students. The lecture series will be a continuous activity
of the I.D.S. from March 2009 onwards.
