Plans for Academic Year
The department shall continue its duty of
imparting education Through its M. A. courses in Pali & Buddhist
literature and shall Promote research activities through the M.
Phil & Ph. D courses in the said subjects. Since the department
is the only institution in the Pune region providing education
in Pali & Buddhist literature, it shall continue running self
financed courses in Pali & Buddhist Studies.
Special Coaching in Pali for UPSC examination
The Department of Pali will provide training facility
in this subject for the main examination of civil service (UPSC)
and is also ready to work in collaboration with Competitive
Examination Centre (CEC) of the University of Pune in this
regard.
Collaboration with foreign countries
In order to benefit from the traditional
knowledge of the Buddhist countries, the Department of Pali
wishes to establish student and teacher exchange programs with
the Institution in these countries. The Department also wants to
establish exchange programs with other foreign Institutions in
order to benefit from their expertise in the field of research.
Collaborative Projects / Pali-Marathi Dictionary
The Department of Pali is willing to play a leading
role by initiating study and research program in collaboration
with Indian Institutes. The present Pali-Marathi dictionaries
are insufficient for study at the post-graduate level. This has
proved to be the biggest hurdle in promotion of Pali in
Maharashtra. In order to remove this hurdle, the Department of
Pali would like to undertake the project of an exhaustive
Pali-Marathi dictionary for students and scholars. For this
project, the co-operation will be sought from the Nava Nalanda
Mahavihara, Nalanda, which has already started a project of a
Pali-Hindi dictionary
Workshops and special study programs
In order to benefit from the traditional knowledge of
the Buddhist countries, the Department of Pali wishes to

Institution in these countries. The Department also wants to
establish exchange programs with other foreign Institutions in
order to benefit from their expertise in the field of research.
The Department shall conduct sixth monthly Seminar of
students of M. A., M. Phil and Ph. D. students as a part of
research training.
Translations from Pali texts into Indian vernaculars
Except a few translations in Marathi and Gujarati, the
picture is very dark as far as Indian vernaculars are concerned.
Hence, there is an urgent need for taking up a national project
for the translation of Pali texts into regional vernaculars. As
a part of this grand mission, the Department of Pali would be
happy to contribute its hereby Starting a translation project in
which Pali texts both canonical as well as non-canonical would
be translated into Marathi and Hind Languages. It would also
work towards preparing a support study material such as
specialized glossaries and textbooks of Pali. This Project would
go a long way in promoting and propagating study of Pali in the
far-flung areas of India.
e-learning Program for Pali
The study of Pali language is lagging behind in this fast
developing modern way of e-learning. In order to bring it at a
par with other subjects, the Department of Pali plans to
undertake an e-learning Program for the Pali language. Through
this Program, we wish to develop an e-learning software for
Pali which can be made available to users through CD and
internet. Apart from this program, e-text versions of Pali
texts would be Prepared. Such programs in the form of CD can
help users to Learn a particular text simply with the help of a
computer. Both these programs can give a big boost to Pali
studies in India and abroad.
Distant learning program for Pali
The Department of Pali is Planning to give a helping hand to
those true lovers of Pali, who Are interested in learning this
subjects along with commercial skills, by initiating the distant
education program for Pali by running correspondence courses
and by conducting examinations for different levels of
proficiency in this language. This would take the University
education at the doorsteps of true seekers of knowledge.

Organization of National Seminar in collaboration with Nava
Nalanda Mahavihara, Nalanda.

Publication of Concise Pali-Marathi Dictionary.

Preparing translation of textbooks prescribed for M. A.
courses like samantapasadika and Moggalana vykarana .
6.
Introducing short term courses on selected Pali scriptures
in Marathi or Hindi for common people.
7.
Organizing workshops and lectures of noted scholars.
