IIC (Institute’s Innovation Council)


IIC (Institute’s Innovation Council) – MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’ across selected HEIs. A network of these IICs will be established to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in the campuses.MHRD-GOI Institute Innovation Council is established at DIC-SPPU on 21st November 2018.

The major functions of SPPU's IIC are as follows:

  1. To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by the Central MIC in time bounded fashion.

  2. Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.

  3. Organize periodic workshops/seminars/interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.

  4. Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.

  5. - Organize Hackathons, idea competition, software & hardware challenges, etc. with the involvement of academia and industries.

I. Abhikalp: Design Competition for Innovative Projects and Proof of Concept Development
DIC-SPPU conducted ABHIKALP: Design Competition for Innovative Projects and Proof of Concept Development for two consecutive years 2018 & 2019. The competition was conducted in DIC –SPPU as the part of IIC which included the presentation of innovative projects by the students. The competition was conducted two times- once in 2018 and another in March 2019. Around 20 winners of Abhikalp 2019 will be provided with financial assistance from DIC SPPU for innovative prototype/product development and exploration towards Commercialization and IPR.

II. Design Thinking Workshop
This workshop was also organized as a part of IIC in the month of January 2019 by DIC- SPPU. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sadique Sache, Global Learning Consultant - CAI, IBM, Pune in which the participants were engaged in a design thinking activity focused towards enlightening them to utilize its methods for learning, empathy, problem solving and creativity at work environments. The Triad was aimed towards triggering humanistic capabilities of an individual towards the management of the four skills. Another Extended Design Thinking Workshop was organized in the month of December 2018, which was conducted by Miss. Prajakta Kulkarni, Founder, Nodes, a three days’ workshop which included a design thinking activity with problem identification, its total analysis and its solving by using individual ideas of participants.

III. Section 8 Company at SPPU
Establishment of Section 8 Company at Research Park Foundation, SPPU, Pune. Section 8 Company get recognition under Section 8 of Companies Act 2013. This Company will dedicate all the income and Profit towards the furtherance of their Objectives.
The features of this are as follows:
- Commercialization of products established under DIC-SPPU.
- Promoting fields of arts, commerce, science, research, education, sports, social welfare, religion, environment protection, or other similar objectives.
- Applying their profits towards the furtherance of their cause and do not pay any dividend to their members.
