The department trains students for teaching, research and professional services.
The department offers four post-graduate degree courses
- Master of Arts in Geography (Two years – Four Semesters)
- Master of Science in Geography (Two years – Four Semesters)
- Master of Science in Geoinformatics (Two years – Four Semesters)
- PG Bachelor in Science (Applied) in GIS and Remote Sensing. (One year – Three Semesters)
The research philosophy has always centered around the application of methods of the physical and social sciences to the study of natural and human environments and their interaction. In the Department, the related disciplines of geomorphology, climatology, economic geography, and population and settlement geography are brought together with a common aim – a better understanding of the geographical environment, the resources it offers, and man’s relations with it.
