Students Support Facilities

Hostels: The IC maintains two International Hostels, one for men and one for women, conveniently located within the campus. The International Boys Hostel (ISH) has 96 rooms, while the International Transit House (ITH) has 42 rooms and six 1BHK flats that provide accommodation for girls. IC also maintains the International Faculty Guest House comprising of six fully furnished flats, exclusively catering to the international exchange guests. The International Centre is responsible for the maintenance of both the hostels along with providing security to the foreign students in the hostel.
Utility Buildings: There are a number of buildings on the Campus such as the Administrative Building, Set Bhavan, buildings of various Post Graduate Departments, Students Welfare Department, Competitive Examination Center, Jayakar Library, Humanities Building, Printing Press, Boys, and Girls Hostels, a number of Canteens, a Health Center and a Refectory. Jayakar Library: Jayakar Library is one of the best centers of reference and information in the country. The library subscribes to Indian and foreign research journals, and also receives periodicals on gratis and exchange basis. It has more than 4,50,627 books and Journals on varied subjects. Inter-library loan facility is extended to many colleges, institutions and government agencies. The Jayakar Library has preserved a wealth of ancient Indian texts in the form of manuscripts and books. It has computerized all Library activities using RFID Technology and has undertaken a project in digital library management. Important documents and minutes of administrative and governing bodies are scanned and available for access.
Cafeteria: The University Refectory is located amidst the Departments of Sociology, Chemistry, and Physics, and provides meals at reasonable prices in a very clean and hygienic environment. Apart from the Cafeteria, there are several Kiosk Canteens located all over the Campus providing snacks and beverages from early morning to late evening. Recreational Facilities and Sports Complex: The University Campus has Basketball Courts, four Auditoriums, and an Amphitheater, sprawling parks and gardens, Volleyball Courts, Cricket and Football grounds, Gymnasium and a Sports hostel. The Sports Complex has a large open ground for outdoor team-games and athletics: In addition, facilities for indoor games are also available. Accommodation for approximately 80 sportsmen and women has been constructed and plans for further expansion. Fields for cricket and football have been newly made and natural lawn has been laid. Indoor game facilities are being created. A new Olympic size swimming pool is under construction.
Health Center: Round the clock medical facilities are available on the Campus for the resident staff and students, providing routine medical facilities like: ECG, eye checkups and dental treatments as well as special medical consultancy. Services of a Resident Doctor and an ambulance for emergency cases is available. Comprehensive information is provided on various diseases and health related issues like AIDS, cancer, smoking, alcoholism immunization and blood donation through mass release of pamphlets and posters. The SavitribaiPhule Pune University 'Help Line' (telephone counseling), was put into operation in 1999, and has been providing guidance on issues related to STD / HIV / AIDS, and Sexuality. A Fitness and Health checkup Center was established in the year 2002 to promote a life style that would result in prevention of diseases and promotion of greater longevity. Yoga Education Center was established in the year 2002 with a grant from the UGC.
Walking Track: As a part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1999, a long closed loop walking-track was laid near the Main Gate of the University around the statue of ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj. At every dawn and dusk there are a large number of people jogging on this track.
Bus Service: There is a regular local bus service connecting the University to all the landmark places in Pune city.
Banking and Postal Services: The Extension Counter of the Bank of Maharashtra is located in the Administrative Bhavan and provides financial services on the Campus. There is a full-fledged Post Office on the campus, which provides both, traditional and modern mailing services. At various strategic points, telephones and reprographic facilities are available.
Medical Insurance: A medical insurance scheme for foreign students is provided.
Student Counselling: Is offered through the IC, providing information and assistance in choosing and sequencing the courses to be pursued. Information on Pune City, its culture, people and historic sites is provided. One-on-one sessions are offered for logistical assistance, as well as support is given in dealing with personal issues.
Language Lab: The International Centre has recently associated itself with the specialized teaching of listening and speaking skills with the help of a language lab. It has been specially created to cater to the diverse needs of the students to acquire specialized skills with regards to speaking English fluently.
Acquiring Information: Students can avail information about the university, courses offered, fees, eligibility criteria, accommodation facilities through the center either by phone, post or email.
FOREIGNER’S REGISTRATION OFFICE (FRO) Every foreign student coming to India, must have a valid Passport and Visa to enter and to continue his/her stay in India. To study in the university, a student must have a valid student’s visa endorsed to the University. Students should report to FRO within 14 days of their arrival. Students are issued a Registration Permit on year to year basis for the duration of the course on producing a Bonafide Certificate from their respective college/department. Students must have their Registration Permit updated 14 days before its expiry.
