The International Centre has been entrusted by the Savitribai Phule Pune University to spearhead its efforts for internationalization of higher education. By helping to establish two-way mobility for scholars of all disciplines, the International Centre functions as a facilitator for liaison and cooperative efforts between the Savitribai Phule Pune University and overseas partners and entities.

- Erasmus Mundus :
Under the Erasmus Mundus Action 2(II) programme, research projects are funded by the European Commission and organized by a partnership of some of the most prestigious universities in Europe and India. Scholarships are awarded to nationals of India to spend a mobility period in Europe in a wide variety of academic fields. SPPU has collaborated with renowned universities like Gottingen University, Germany, Lund University Sweden, Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Politechnio de Torino in Italy, and City University, London. Under these collaborations, scholarships are made available to Indian students, as well as academic and non-academic staff of the University, for undergraduate, post graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral studies.

The India 4EU II, an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Project was also sanctioned and SPPU is proud of being in partnership with prestigious institutions like KungligaTekniskaHogskolan (KTH) of Sweden. The recent participation of SPPU in the European Scholarship Programme – Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW) Lot 15 and 13, has led to further opportunities for academic exchange and research programmes.

1. An institutional partnership of SavitribaiPhule Pune University, in its efforts to internationalise higher education has been with the University of Massachusetts (UMASS), Amherst, under the Indo-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative (formerly known as the Obama-Singh Knowledge Initiative).

2. Grants have been approved for the projecttitled InclusiveUniversities: Linking Diversity, Equity and Excellence for the 21st Century.

3. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SavitribaiPhule Pune University and a consortium of 17 universities from Ontario, Canada, and colleges and universities in Maharashtra and Goa. The MOU promotes student exchange under the Ontario Maharashtra Goa Student Exchange Programme. The coordinating universities are Ryerson University, Ontario and SPPU.

4. MOU’s have been signed with universities of high international standing such as Penn State University, Tubingen University, Germany, UMASS Amherst, USA.
