Facilities

The centre is equipped with state-of-the art facilities of advance hardwares and softwares necessary for students with disabilities which create an environment for learning regular academic programs and assistive technology research. The centre comprises a learning lab, accessibility research laband a Digital library.

It is a specially equipped lab consisting advance computer systems with 24 hour internet connectivity loaded with screen reader / talking software’s like JAWS, NVDA, Supernova, Kurzweil, talking typing teacher, spell well, Magic magnifier, Zoom text, Ubuntu Linux with ORCA screen reader etc specially designed for Persons with various kinds of disabilities to provide independent computer operating ability and internet access. It also consists of sophisticated equipments like Braille printers, ZoomX book reading machine, brailler etc required for making higher education accessible and inclusive.

Accessibility research lab:

It is the lab with state-of-the-art facility for accessibility research in the area of Web accessibility, mobile accessibility, desktop accessibility and academic services accessibility. The Accessibility research group at the lab works for making university program, services and activities accessible for persons with disabilities that involves creation of accessible course material, special teaching aids and methodology Accessible Web services, Accessible Built environment and Accessible course Delivery mechanism. The Lab also focus on Development and benchmarking of Various accessibility standards and regulations such as Web content accessibility guidelines(WCAG), Government of India Guidelines for web accessibility (GIGW). The group spread awareness about Web accessibility, Mobile accessibility, Desktop accessibility, Cloud services accessibility etc. and help government and corporate organizations for implementation of various accessibility standards and regulations in their websites. The group also impart web accessibility training to various stakeholders.

Four faculties of the department of education and extension, One of the staff members of the centre and several project interns are associated with the research.

It accessibility services provides a range of resources to help advance the university's commitment to diversity and equitable access to opportunities for all students including those with disabilities and ensures continued compliance with regulatory requirements under various national and international accessibility standards.

Digital library:

We have collection of around 3000 audio books of arts, commerce, law and competitive exams. The books are distributed to various needy students with disabilities of the university in free of charge. We also have Digital access information system (DAISY) book production facility for recording digital audio books.

The centre also has subscription of Bookshare and Sugamya pustakalaya like international accessible books library.
