About HOD :
Dr. Ujjwala
Barve is
a past student
of the same
department
where she
is now teaching
since 1996.
After compelting
her Bachelor
in Communicatioin
and Journalism
course in
1984 she
worked in
a Marathi
newspaper
'Maha-rashtra'
before joining
All India
Radio, New
Delhi to
work first
as a newsreader
and later
as an assistant
news editor.
She was
associated
with All
India Radio,
Pune as
well for
many years
after her
return to
Pune. She
made a foray
into TV
Journalism
with a local
video daily
'Pune Varta'.
Later she
anchored
a popular
weekly current
affairs
discussion
programme
on Doordarshan
(Sahyadri
channel
for Maharashytra)
since its
launch in
2002 till
2012. She
went back
to academics
in 1995
to get a
Master's
degree in
Communication
and Journalism.
Later she
joined the
department
as a media
teacher.
Her doctoral
research
was about
accuracy
of langauge
used in
Marathi
radio and
TV bulletins.
She teaches
language
skills,
Radio Journalism,
Media Research
and Advertiisng.
Her research
areas are
media and
communication,
media education,
diaspora
media etc.
She has
presented
research
papers in
national
and international
conferences.
She has
so translated
many books
from English
into Marathi
including
'Indian
Media Business'
by Vanita
Kohli-Khandekar.
