Group Description: We are in the midst of ‘target rich lead poor scenario’ as the evolving drug targets are not being compensated by the novel and effective leads. In the current state of the art, over 60% anticancer drugs that are prescribed the physician are basically derived from the natural products mostly from plants, marine organisms, and microorganisms. The anticancer activity of most natural products often act via regulating cell proliferation pathways, immune function, inducing apoptosis or autophagy, or inhibiting cell proliferation. Our lab is working on identification of evidence based novel leads from natural sources that can be validated against several anti-cancer and anti-diabetic drug targets with possible molecular mechanisms. Parallel to this our lab has also focus of addressing the basic molecular aspects of cancer biology and diabetes in relation drug resistance, epigenetics, tumour heterogeneity, EMT and apoptosis.
