  • Topic of Research (Ph.D):
Cyto-physiological studies in onion (Allium cepa L.) with reference to mutagenesis.

  • Area of Specilization:
    Cytogenetics, Plant breeding, Mutation breeding.

  • Research Experience:
Currently working as a Senior Research Fellow in DAE-BRNS project entitled as "Improvement in quality, yield and storage life of onion (Allium cepa L.) through mutation breeding" under Dr. K. N. Dhumal, Department of Botany, University of Pune, Pune-411 007. Various types of desirable mutants for e.g. High yield, High TSS (Total soluble solid), early maturing and high storage life bulb mutants were obtained through sodium azide and gamma radiation treatments (alone and in combination). Physiological and biochemical characterization of these mutants proved that these mutants were superior to parent varieties. The work on molecular characterization of these mutants is going on.
Fellow of Mendelian Academy of Sciences (F.M.A.)
Elected Fellow of Mendelian Academy of Sciences (F.M.A.) in the meeting of Executive Council of the Mendelian Society of India, 194-B, S. K. Puri, Patana-800 001 (INDIA) held on June-2004 at Patana.

Participation and presentation of Research papers in International Conferences/Seminars:
Presented a Research paper in 3rd International Crop Science Congress held at CCH-Hamburg (Germany) on 17th -22nd Aug. 2000.
