English Proficiency Test (EPT) and Remedial English Course for International Students (RECIS):

English Proficiency Test (EPT): An International Student who has been granted admission to any of the Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate courses after passing the qualifying examination from a Statutory Board or a Statutory University outside of India shall have to appear for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) at the International Centre. International Students who are native speakers of English and such Non-Native speakers of English who have passed qualifying Examination from English speaking countries such as U.S.A, U.K, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are exempted from the Proficiency Test in English.
English Proficiency Test (EPT) – I is conducted in August every year and no examination fee is charged for this exam.

Remedial English Course for International Students (RECIS): An International Student who either fails in English Proficiency Test (EPT) or fails to appear for this test shall be required to join the Remedial English Course for International Students conducted by International Centre, University of Pune. Tuition Fees for this course will be charged separately. The course will be conducted on the University campus. At the end of RECIS, an English Proficiency Test (EPT) – II will be conducted by International Centre, University of Pune.
Remedial is a six week course beginning in the first week of September with exams in the second week of October.
Subsequent tests for the students who have failed to clear EPT II are held as Remedial II in November, Remedial III in early December and Remedial IV at the end of December. The admission of students who do not pass the English Test shall be cancelled.


Following students are exempted from English Proficiency Test:

• Students from English speaking Countries
• Students who have passed from an Indian board
• Students who have passed ELICIS Course with B+ (Grade)


We request all International Students to follow the procedure strictly. Those who refuse to accept the above rules will not be given admission.

All the students who have been admitted to different Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate courses during the academic year 2012-13 will have to appear for English Proficiency Test (EPT). An International Student who has been granted admission to any of the courses after passing the qualifying examination from a Statutory board of Statutory University outside India will have to appear for the English Proficiency Test (EPT) conducted by the International Centre, University of Pune.

Students who have been exempted from English Proficiency Test are:
1. Native Speakers of English
2. Students who have passed the qualifying examination from English Speaking Countries.
